I finally etched my mac
August 12th, 2008 by adminI have wanted to etch my mac for sometime now. I have wanted to do so for about a year, but it was either inconvenient or I did not have the artwork to make it happen. My first problem was finding something I wanted to tattoo on my computer FOREVER (that may not be as easy as you think). The second thing is where to get it done.
To cut the long story short, I found this company in NYC adafruit. They had a decent portfolio and they were relatively close by (considering i was in Boston). Now for the artwork, I decided to place the burden of deciding what should be on my MAC on my good friend/artist Obilo. We tossed around several ideas, but finally agreed on the current one. He has a tshirt company called “The love network” and a mascot called Humphree, so we decided to to make a custom design of Humphree hanging from a balloon and spreading love all around the world (We can’t get enough of love in the world these days).

He cooked up the art, and after preparing it for etching, sent it to adafruit. They approved it! A week later, 9:00 in the morning I was on a 4 hour bus to NYC from to Boston got it etched in 30 minutes, jumped unto a bus at 4:00pm and then was back at Obilo’s apartment in Boston by 9:00pm.

Etching it was a breeze. This was done in the guys apartment, who is also the senior editor for MAKE: magazine, so for my trouble, coming all the way from Boston he gave me some MAKE goodies. It was kinda crazy considering I spent more time on the road than in any one place, but it was worth it. I think etching your mac should be an easier process, we will see as the industry evolves.
Having problem importing the video, ill put up a link here when I have it on youtube ![]()
