The other Boleyn girl
August 18th, 2008 by adminFor a long time now I have always believed that women were the true leaders of the world. Someone once told me that the saying “Behind every successful man is a woman” points to the fact that there cannot be a powerful man, without a powerful woman at his side. The person goes further to ask me, who did I think was really president Hillary Clinton or Bill Clinton. At that time I laughed and brushed the question aside but with American politics today you can only wonder how Bill actually made his final decisions as he went to bed.

This movie “The other Boleyn girl” Can easily be said to be the best movie I have seen all year. It stars two of my favorite actresses Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman and they did not disappoint. This movie was loosely based on historical events. Events from the marriage of Anne Boleyn to King Henry VIII of England leading to the birth of Queen Elizabeth I of England. Besides the obvious marvel of how things have historically unfolded to where we are today, this movie was filled with GREAT topics such as power, seduction, greed, money, free will and evil but the one that touched me the most was the inherent power of women. The movie was so seamless, half way through I knew it had to be based on a true story, the natural progression of the characters and the unpredictable but logical reactions of the characters to events was to real to be conceived by a writer.

The acting in this movie was stellar, the weaknesses of great men could not be more pronounced and the power of women more glaring. This is definitely the drama of the year and is Oscar worthy, in fact I’m ready to cast my votes now.
This movie reminded me of greek mythology. The famous Trojan war, where heroes like Achilles died was started because of a woman. While men have been gifted with great physical strength and ability, women have been given emotional prowess in which they can win the minds of men and women alike and from behind that powerful man, change the world. But when these powers are used disrespectfully the outcomes can be dire. So what I am saying to you is screw Titanic , Atonment or any of those other cool epic dramas you hear about out there, all you should be concerned about is the other Boleyn girl.

that’s right! women rule
and in fact it is amazing how manipulative women have been throughout time–who really “wears” the pants.
and in some cultures women are seen as the leaders.

Very very interesting perspective Adim. I must say, I have seen this movie twice (both times I was very tired & fell asleep for a small portion, but regardless lol) I found it… I don’t know I really couldn’t decide what to make of it. I definitely didn’t find it Oscar worthy, I won’t lie to you lol.
BUT I do think you bring up some very valid points & makes me change my opinion a bit. I agree with what you said about women, and not just because I am one and love relishing in the fact that a man has admitted our somewhat superiority, but because there is truth behind it. I think one important thing you did not mention is that only the women who KNOW & understand they have this power, are actually able to use it. Just like not all men are strong & powerful, not all women are cunning & deceptive. But perhaps the fraction of women that have harnassed this power is smaller than that of men, hence their empowerment… or it could be that physical strength is more attainable than mental strength… I don’t know, but is definitely something worth pondering.
All power can be used for good and bad, but it is the individual and the circumstance which determines its use. And it is the intelligent ones who choose to use it to their benefit…

Interesting points Adim. I should also point of that one should pay attention of the development of the other Boleyn girl. Inherently all women want to be good (I actually feel all humans want to be good). But then certain societal pressures can result in the development of deception (another case is the joker in The Dark Knight). In this film Natalie Portman’s character developed the way it did because of family pressure and betrayal. So it just goes to show you that you should never pressure or betray anyone because it can lead to dire consequences. And women especially play this game quite well.
