It might be late but you knew this was coming. I found an hour and $10 to spare from my crazy schedule and dwindling budget to go see a movie I have been waiting for. I am not a Star Trek fan and have never really followed the series but there were two major reasons I wanted to see this movie. 1. It looked like Star Trek for non geeks/fans 2. It was loved by critics.

So I rolled out with a couple of buddies to go check out this movie on its pre-release date. It was not a disappointment. I think the best description of the movie was given by Paul Stamatiou when he twittered “star trek movie was interesting in a so-so kind of way“. It was a good movie but it was not particularly epic in any particular way. Great cinematics, CGI, plot and actors (even though the cast was unusual) but there was like a missing punchline at least that is the way I felt.

What was particularly impressive about the movie was the time traveling and alternative realities embedded within the plot. I think J.J.Abrams must have drank some time travel cool aid cause it is sprinkled all over the shows he has on TV now and this movie too. I think relativity is one of my favorite topics in physics that is why I am drawn to time travel.

The movie is basically about James T. Kirk who was a rebellious but intelligent/genius guy. He finds his calling to join USS Enterprise after he is given an inspirational talk by Capt. Christopher Pike. The movie basically chronicles how he becomes Captain of the USS Enterprise, but not without going through several trial and tribulations and learning life lessons on the way. Within the sci-fi and action there is a decent amount of humor tucked into the movie. This is definitely a summer blockbuster, best seen on a big screen.

I recommend it to people who love futuristic tales and mind warping plots (on a scientific level)…There is much to be appreciated.

My rating = 95% (Will definately watch again)

I was talking to a friend the other day about the cool things I can do when I sleep. Things like Waking up EXACTLY when I want to without an alarm clock and how I used to be able to continue a dream from where I left off. While I was bantering away she asked me two questions that I thought were mundane at the time but have occupied my mind for many hours after that conversation, leading up to this post.

What language do you dream in? What colors do you dream in? she asked. “English” I said “and my dreams are in the same color as my vision” I continued. “Are you sure?” she asked. At first I was sooo sure, but when she asked me to think more about it, the more I thought the more doubtful I was. Dreaming in English I was pretty sure of, it is my primary and most expressive means of communication but the color of my dreams eluded me. I remember dreaming as I see but for some reason I doubted that was how I dreamt. She also asked if I thought I dreamt as I saw because that is what I expect or if that is how I really dreamt.

The conversation went on and on but what was interesting to me was how similar life is to dreaming. What is the difference between the way I thought I dreamt and the way I REALLY dreamt? Our reality is based solely on our perception, the way we think things are is actually the way they REALLY are to us. What we see and feel is our reality as supposed to what is really there. It is amazing the power of the mind and how it shapes our individual worlds. This raises big questions like Why do we dream? How do we know we are awake? What is real?

It is suprising to know that upon all the scientific break throughs scientists have achieved they have not discovered the reason for our dreams or their meainings. Due to similarities between life and dreams I cannot help but wonder if the meaning of our lives are in the answer to the meaning of your dreams.

I have wanted to etch my mac for sometime now. I have wanted to do so for about a year, but it was either inconvenient or I did not have the artwork to make it happen. My first problem was finding something I wanted to tattoo on my computer FOREVER (that may not be as easy as you think). The second thing is where to get it done.

To cut the long story short, I found this company in NYC adafruit. They had a decent portfolio and they were relatively close by (considering i was in Boston). Now for the artwork, I decided to place the burden of deciding what should be on my MAC on my good friend/artist Obilo. We tossed around several ideas, but finally agreed on the current one. He has a tshirt company called “The love network” and a mascot called Humphree, so we decided to to make a custom design of Humphree hanging from a balloon and spreading love all around the world (We can’t get enough of love in the world these days).

He cooked up the art, and after preparing it for etching, sent it to adafruit. They approved it! A week later, 9:00 in the morning I was on a 4 hour bus to NYC from to Boston got it etched in 30 minutes, jumped unto a bus at 4:00pm and then was back at Obilo’s apartment in Boston by 9:00pm.

Etching it was a breeze. This was done in the guys apartment, who is also the senior editor for MAKE: magazine, so for my trouble, coming all the way from Boston he gave me some MAKE goodies. It was kinda crazy considering I spent more time on the road than in any one place, but it was worth it. I think etching your mac should be an easier process, we will see as the industry evolves.

Having problem importing the video, ill put up a link here when I have it on youtube
